Basic training was at Lackland AFB, TX. It's not even worth mentioning. After that I went to Tech School at Sheppard AFB, TX. I was there for six months learning electronics and DSTE Maintenance. While I was there I bought my second computer, a Sinclair ZX81. I bought my first computer, a Super Elf, back in 1979. |

My first assignment after I left Tech School was to RAF Croughton, UK. I spent three years there and while I was there I married a local girl. I bought my third computer there, a Comodore VIC-20 (a waste of money). About six months before I was due to leave the PTB told me that my job was going away and I needed to cross train (imediately). They curtailed my assignment and two weeks later I was gone. |

So now I'm back in Tech School; this time at Keesler AFB in Biloxi Mississippi. I lived two blocks from the Beach and spent most of my time there. I was there four months, from the end of January to the Begining of May. |

My next assignment was to Ramstein AFB in Germany. I spent four years there and had a great time. I bought my forth and fifth computers there. They were a Atari 800XL and a Wang Laptop (sort of MS-Dos compatible). The Atari is still gathering dust somewhere but I sold the Wang years ago. |

My next assignment was at Wright-Patterson AFB. My landlord there was really into computers and we built and sold a bunch of them. I can't even remeber how many computers I owned there and I don't have any of them left anyway. |

After that I went to Scott AFB. I spent more time at this base than any other assignment, over six years. I did network control for a world-wide network of IDNX multiplexers. I did part-time computer consulting while I was there and built a ton of customer computers, mostly for real-estate offices. I still have a couple of my computers from then, but they are starting to show their age. |

next I went to Lajes in the Azores. This is a little, bitty island in the middle of the Atlantic. I was the NCOIC of the base Network Control Center. The only access to the internet for the entire base (about 2,000 customers) was a 256k pipe back to the states. I got a part-time job here driving the MWR boat for water skiers (rough job). I was only there for 15 months. |

Back to Wright-Patterson. The day before I got back my old pal (previous landlord) died from a heart attack. This pretty much set the tone for this whole assignment. I worked network security for AFMC for a boss who couldn't make up her mind what she wanted us to do. Fortunately I was only there for just under two years. |
